Dar Ima, Marrakech's first kosher restaurant, celebrates its tenth anniversary this year. The establishment, which also offers catering services, is located in Guéliz, the historic center of the red city, a 5-minute walk from Beth El synagogue.
It is run by Chouvi Assayag, daughter of singer Pinhas Cohen. This young Moroccan-Israeli woman inherited the art of Moroccan cuisine from her mother. Behind Dar Ima's stoves, a devoted team works daily, many of whom grew up alongside Chouvi in Marrakech's mellah.
Dar Ima's menu, served in a friendly atmosphere reminiscent of family meals, is typically Moroccan. For starters, the choice is varied: Dar Ima salad assortment, assortment of cigars or briouates, Israeli salad or chicken pastilla.
For main courses, the menu is equally well-stocked: royal couscous, chicken or meat couscous, vegetarian couscous, various tagines with semolina, grilled salmon, etc.
For grilled food enthusiasts, merguez, chicken breast, kefta, liver sausages, ribeye or lamb chops will be served with fries or green salad.
Finally, for dessert, the Moroccan pastries will very likely make you want to discover the Simha by Dar Ima bakery, located 280 meters from the restaurant. This bakery offers, in addition to a rich array of pastries, homemade Moroccan petit fours and khalot, breakfasts for all palates starting from 100 dirhams. You can also sit down to sip mint tea accompanied by a sweet of your choice in a decor that is as minimalist as it is charming.
